From 1973 to 1975, Flt.Lt. Samar Shah served as the Aide-de-Camp(ADC) to the Chief of Air Staff, Mr O.P. Mehra. ADC is a very prestigious posting in the armed forces.

Lt. Col. Shardul Shah(Samar Shah's father) and Mr O.P Mehra were batchmates at Government College (Lahore, Pakistan), before partition and played hockey on the same team.
