 "During the war, Vampire Squadron's 220 & 45 were combined. The squadrons were grounded after a couple of days due to losses suffered in the air. The 220 Squadron was commanded by Sqn Ldr N.F. "Stumpie" Watts, who died in an air crash later on. Our detachment was in the Kutch sector under Flt Lt I.P. Ahuja. After the squadron was disbanded, I was posted as Forward Air Controller attached to the Gurkha rifles in the Chamb sector. I saw hand to hand combat and was involved with directing our fighter bombers onto enemy targets, as we were deep in enemy territory." ----Flt Lt (Retd) Samar "Sam" Shah VrC,VM  |
